Several weeks ago Flanders Nature Center in Woodbury, CT, held a paint-out. The resulting work will be on display at the Woodbury Public Library from October 8 to October 28. The opening reception is today from 2 to 4. These are two of my paintings in the show.

Virtual Exhibition

Barn on Town Line Road

The Roxbury show came down at the beginning of the month, so here is a web version showing all twenty-nine paintings.

Painting for this show really got me going again after a decade dealing with my mother's final years struggling with Alzheimer's  and Parkinson's. Just the kick in the tail that I needed. I've been painting like mad since I hung the show and will be posting more soon.

In the Paper of Record...

I ran into my friend Diana at a social gathering and she said, "Your picture looked great in The Times this morning." I was totally surprised and delighted that they chose my work to illustrate the Metropolitan Section's Calendar in the Sunday Times.

Opening Reception, Barns and Gardens, II

Roxbury, CT

Artist and teacher Marija McCarthy looks at my work. This painting seemed to be a particular favorite with many people.

I'm reassuring Ruth that there's wine in the punch.

People braved the rain and seemed to enjoy the work.

Opening Reception, Barns and Gardens, I

Roxbury, CT

Here I am explaining something to someone while "waiting for my public" at my opening last Saturday.

The show gave me a chance to paint large works for the main room, while the hallway gallery worked really well for the small paintings.

The sunny morning had turned into threatening storms. Well, at least there was food.

And then the rains came in earnest. Stay tuned more tomorrow.

It's UP!!

Roxbury, CT

Carl and I hung my show in Roxbury and it really looks good, if I do say so myself. We managed to find spaces for all 29 without crowding the main room.

Two More from "Barns and Gardens"

"Misty Morning, Holly Farm"

I'm making my final selections of paintings for my upcoming show. There's more recent work than will actually fit on the walls.

"White Barns, Brookfield, CT"

I've known about these farm buildings for years, but only recently, because of a subdivision, an access road with a usable viewpoint became available.

Show Announcement: Barns and Gardens

The date for the opening of my show of recent landscape paintings is fast approaching. Here's a little preview.

Two Red Barns, Bloomfield, New York

From the exhibition Statement:

My first visual influences were my daily surroundings, especially my mother’s garden in Bridgewater and my grandmother’s farm in Roxbury. When I began to paint seriously as a teenager, these were my first subjects. Following traditional training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, I found myself drawn to painters whose work reminded me of those childhood surroundings. The American Impressionists were, and remain, an especially strong influence. Farms and gardens continue as a constant source of inspiration.
